Smarter Travel
South Dublin County Council in conjunction with the National Transport Authority (formerly the Dublin Transportation Office) have developed a travel programme for Adamstown residents called Smarter Travel Adamstown.  The pilot was supported by Dublin Bus and the Adamstown Developers.  Smarter Travel Adamstown was launched in May 2009, on the same day as the inaugural Adamstown 8K Road Race which promotes a range of travel options for work, school, shopping, leisure and sporting activities.

Smarter Travel Adamstown- Personalised Travel Planning Pilot Project

The Adamstown Household Survey 2008 indicated a high demand for personalised travel advice among Adamstown residents. The Smarter Travel Personalised Travel Planning pilot provided residents with the opportunity to talk to a specialised Travel Team about their travel options, either face to face, by phone or through email.

Members of the Smarter Travel Adamstown Travel Team called to households in Adamstown in Sepetmber/October 2009 to offer personalised travel advice and travel resources to Adamstown residents. The Travel Team discussed personalised travel needs, provided information on travel services to and from Adamstown, distributed customised travel maps, route planner stickers and details of walking and cycle routes in the area. Participants in the pilot were invited and encouraged to take the Smarter Travel Adamstown - Journey Logger and Pedometer challenges.

As part of the pilot, the Travel Team promoted walking, cycling, public transport usage, and car-pooling for regular journeys, where feasible, by providing tailored information on routes, travel timetables and connections. Tickets for public transport (bus and train) were provided on a limited basis, to residents who commited to switching from car journeys to public transport on a trial basis.
The Travel Team called back to participating residents in November/December 2009 to see if residents found the information and resources provided useful and to answer any queries that may have arisen since the initial contact.

A comprehensive report on the pilot has been produced which details the purpose, methodology/approach, findings and a set of recommendations.  Click here to view the complete report on the Smarter Travel Adamstown PTP pilot programme.
