Regional Context:  Adamstown is located 10 miles (16km) west of Dublin City Centre, on the edge of the existing built-up area of Lucan.  The N4/M4 route  lies to the north, while the Dublin Kildare rail line serves the site to the south.

Local Context:  Adamstown is located to the west of the Lucan-Newcastle (Lock) Road and includes the lands to the rear of the Superquinn Centre, Westbury housing estate and Finnstown House Hotel (not including the Hotel grounds) and opposite the Finnstown housing area. Adamstown immediately adjoins the main Dublin (Heuston) - Kildare railway line to the south and the Hillcrest Heights, Meadowview Grove and Dodsboro Cottages housing areas to the north. Tandy's Lane runs through the centre of Adamstown lands, which also adjoin a small section of Tubber Lane to the north-west.
